Beginning with Books Center for Early Literacy offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that fit into busy schedules through its Reading Mentoring Programs.
Volunteers commit to read one-on-one with a child for one hour each week in a library, or at lunchtime in an elementary school through the Everybody Wins! program.
All of our volunteers receive an orientation that includes the importance of reading aloud, tips on how to select books, handle distractions, conduct other literacy-related activities, and how to encourage family reading and library use.
All volunteers must have or apply for state clearances of criminal and child abuse records. Beginning with Books will provide the required forms and, if necessary, cover the cost.
