Book of the Week recently spent an afternoon at Phipps Conservatory. It’s warm there and green. Book of the Week began to dream about verdant garden plots. The young girl in Kevin Henkes’ latest is also dreaming of gardens.

 

Her garden includes patterned flowers, a jelly bean bush, and no weeds. In her garden, seashells are seeds for growing bigger seashells.

 

Henkes’ watercolor and ink drawings begin in reality and quickly make the transition to the imaginary and fantastic.

 

A perfect read aloud as we all anticipate the arrival of spring!
