Mission Programs Who we are

Beginning with Books...

Advocates Early Literacy
For 22 years Beginning with Books has advocated the importance of early literacy as the best way to make a difference in the lives of children, especially those at greatest risk.

Empowers Children to Read
Getting children to read starts with getting books into their hands. Beginning with Books has put hundreds of thousands of books into homes and child care centers.

Coaches Parents and Caregivers
Children imitate their parents and caregivers. That's why Beginning with Books coaches parents, grandparents, and child care providers in low-income communities about the value of early literacy.

Forges Bonds in the Community
When one adult reads to a child, both are enriched. When scores of volunteers read to hundreds of children, a whole community is enriched. Beginning with Books connects hundreds of volunteers and children for one-on-one read-aloud sessions.

Shares Resources
Beginning with Books' early literacy specialists supply materials, offer workshops and training opportunities, and are sought out for local and national literacy conferences.

Champions the Power and Magic of Books
"It's great when you can read. It's the best thing in my life." — powerful words from a child who discovered that books open doors, spark the imagination, and enrich life.
